Looking For A Good Costume? Check Out Mens ABBA Costumes!

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

There’s nothing more exciting than getting dressed up for a Halloween or costume party, but when you want to be completely original and fun with your costume, the choice of what you and your friends can dress up as can be daunting. Luckily, the idea of doing a group costumes has become more popular, so if you choose to dress up as a musical group like ABBA for Halloween with your friends, you’re sure to have fun with your costume, while being as creative as you want to be with your look.

ABBA, for those who are unaware, is a 70s singing group that has had international hits like “Dancing Queen,” and was known for their disco style clothes. Cat suits, big sleeves, frills, big shoes and mini skirts were all staples in the group’s wardrobe, and with some hunting, you and your friends will be able to pull off the ABBA look with ease.

mens abba costumes sold over 280 million LP?s, CD?s and tapes. What brought them so much success? They had superb production values, genius blending techniques, and they brilliantly mixed their strings & keyboards. They synthesized sounds with the electronically modified voices of their female vocalists. ABBA was also successful because of their colorful costumes which epitomized 70s fashion. They could be seen wearing these famous stage outfits at any concert from late in 1975 to the end of their careers. Their costumes included cat dresses, blue satin suits, peasant dresses (seen in the film clip for ?Fernando?), and velvet jumpsuits that were later made famous in the official film clip for ?Dancing Queen.? ABBA also recorded their biggest hits in four different languages, including English and Spanish, which fueled their international success. The final key to the group?s success was their willingness to make music videos. Although customary today, in the 70s making a video to accompany a song was a very new idea.

Women can easily mimic Agneta and Frida’s outfits in one of two ways. Long blonde wigs are the perfect way to start the disco style, and should be matched with a shiny, bright-colored mini skirt over a spangled mini skirt or flared bell bottoms. If you’re lucky, you may find a catsuit or two that you can add bright, thick belts of color to for a great, simple costume. This look is great with go-go boots or high platforms.

Men trying to dress like ABBA’s Benny and Bjorn can have just as much fun as their female counterparts with their costumes. Disco reigned supreme in the 70s, so wearing big patterns and bright polyester pants is a sure way to get the ABBA look.

Pantsuits in bright colors, like blue, purple or pink, are fun to use as your abba costumes. If you have no problem showing of some chest hair, keep your long sleeved shirt unbuttoned and pop your collar high before folding it over. Ruffled and lacy shirts and bell bottoms with a wide belt adorning the outfit is a cheaper costume if you have a short budget.

ABBA costumes, in their elaborate planning and bright details, will be a fun and wacky costume to put together. But one of the most important elements of this costume is the fun, happy personalities that come with the ABBA appearance.

Making Costumes: How To Design Your Own Halloween Costume

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

Designing your own Halloween costume can be easier than you might think. All it takes is a little time and some imagination. Start by deciding exactly what you would like to be for Halloween. Once you have made this decision your next step would be to collect the necessary materials to design the perfect costume. Be sure and allow yourself enough time to work on making costumes, that way if you end up missing an important item you still have time to go out and pick it up. Waiting for the last minute is not a good idea.

Angel - For an angel costume you would need some white material for the body of the outfit. You can purchase some thin, easy to work with wire from most any craft department store. Use this to construct the halo that fits perfectly around your head. Also, pipe cleaners can be used for this. Dress it up by using lace or some type of silky material to sew around as a covering. Some white or gold color material would look perfect for the angel’s wings. Sew some wire through the edges of the wings to help them stand out.

Witch - Have you always wanted to be a witch for Halloween? If so, you simply start by purchasing the black material. Just sew a simple pull over dress then use a belt to pull it tight around your waist. You can either buy a black belt or sew one from left over material. Cut the bottom in a zigzag to add a touch of flare, add some black boots, an old broom for a prop and of course, the pointed black hat. If you want to make the hat yourself you can do so by using cardboard to form the wide brim pointy design and glue the black cloth to the outer surface of the cardboard.

Animal - Perhaps a cute little animal such as a cat, dog or even an adorable little bunny is more what you are looking for. Pipe cleaners sewed to a strap for support make wonderful whiskers, or just use a makeup pencil to color them on. Ears can be made by sewing together material with just enough stuffing to give them shape and body. Sewing wire along the edges of the ears will allow them to be shaped into different positions. To make a tail for a cat or dog you simply need to cut out and sew together a piece of material the correct length. Next, add the stuffing to give it the depth it needs then sew it onto the rest of the costume. A big ball of cotton glued onto a bunny outfit makes a perfect Peter Cotton Tail.

Of course you can do the costume you want, keep in mind that making costumes can be easier than you might think! so.. get to work!
